Mandala Creating Workshop
April 18, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm UTC+0
€5What is a Mandala?
The word Mandala literally means “circle”. A Mandala is usually circular in form, of abstract design and generally symmetrical. They are found everywhere; in nature, in design, in buildings, they are hard to miss. They are present in a variety of cultural and spiritual traditions but particularly Buddhism, where the Mandala is symbolic of the universe and in essence represent the connection between our inner and outer worlds.
How do I Create my own Mandala?
Designing your own mandala can be both relaxing and inspirational and all the more fun in a group setting, with the chat and a cup of tea. In Gillian’s Mandala Group you will start with a blank piece of paper on which you draw a circle, find a central point and work from there. You have the freedom to introduce shapes, patterns and colours and create your own unique Mandala. Coloring is a wonderfully relaxing and creative activity for anyone, there is no right or wrong way in what can be a highly enriching experience.
What can I use my Mandala for?
Creating a Mandala can simply be an enjoyable and relaxing experience; you may become so focused on the activity that all other thoughts and concerns fall away and you will produce a piece of art in the process. Beyond that Mandalas are a great tool for increasing self-awareness; either learning about your present inner world or designing a Mandala to symbolize a state of mind that you would like to achieve. For each person the experience is different and you can decide what it is for you.
What Materials do I need?
All materials are provided in the class; paper, compasses, pencils, rulers, erasers and coloured pencils. However, once you have enjoyed a Mandala class, the chances are you will want to buy your own materials.
